The “Ugly Christmas Sweater” is a popular American Christmas tradition. Christmas sweaters are usually bright, garish, loud, or “tacky”, and feature popular Christmas designs, like Santa Claus, presents, and snowflakes.  Many are handmade.  We think that they are “ugly”—but cute!  We like to make fun of this traditional sweater by wearing an ugly sweater to work, or to a holiday party, during the month of December.

 

 

 

The 1-nensei (2/3) classes participated in this tradition by designing ugly sweaters of their own!

　「ぶさかわクリスマスセーター」は人気あるアメリカのクリスマスの伝統です。クリスマスのセーターというのはたいてい明るく、きらびやかで、派手で、ときには「ダサい」ものです。また、サンタクロースやプレゼントや雪といった一般的なクリスマスのデザインをあしらったものが多いです。そして、多くが手編みです。「ぶさいく～、でもかわいい！」と皆思うのです。私たちは１２月の間、職場やパーティーにぶさいくなセーターを着て行き、この伝統的なセーターをからかって楽しみます。

 

 

 

　1年2組・3組の生徒が、英語表現の授業でオリジナルのぶさかわセーターをデザインしてこの伝統に参加しました。
